Fast Food Burgers Our House

Salt in our home is used sporadically. When we eat out it becomes apparent how much salt is used. There are restaurants that we can’t eat due to the amount of salt. This is apparent at fast-food restaurants.

The kids like hamburgers, so I determined that I would figure out a solution to a good hamburger at home. First I tried the pressed burgers from the freezer aisle at the grocery store. When my son brought several friends home it was easy to pull out six or eight burgers, thaw them in the microwave and serve them in about 20 minutes.

After a period of time, we decided these burgers were too ‘tight’. Now I buy an 80/20 or 83/17 burger and a hamburger press. When I get home I press burgers myself. The advantage is that I can add ingredients to the flavor. I have added a cheese center, a little garlic, and even ground up bacon to the burgers. It also allows me to customize the size, bigger for the boys, and smaller for the adults.

I store them in plastic storage bags with parchment paper between burgers. I have found that a minute in our microwave thaws them without cooking them.

Coupled with the potatoes that I make in advance (the kids like these potatoes as much as the fast-food fries) and a vegetable I can have a meal on the table in 10 to 15 minutes.
